Enabling birth & postpartum doulas to easily accept insurance.
Loula is a software platform and national provider network for independent birth & postpartum doulas to boost their practices by accepting health insurance. Doulas typically operate outside of the traditional healthcare system and face an enormous learning curve and administrative burden when trying to accept insurance. This is why we created Loula. Starting with doulas in California, Loula handles their credentialing, contracting, and revenue cycle management so that they can focus on delivering the best quality care to their clients.
Loula enables birth and postpartum doulas to accept insurance by handling credentialing, eligibility checks, and insurance billing through a dedicated portal. It coordinates multiple health plans via a single online application, streamlining admin so doulas can focus on clients.
Loula provides a doula portal that performs insurance eligibility checks for each client, credentialing with health plans (e.g., Kaiser Permanente, Health Net), and ongoing insurance billing. Doulas complete a one-time online onboarding, then Loula manages credentialing across plans, handles plan-specific contracting, verifies insurance, and submits visits in less than 5 minutes. Doulas are paid bi-weekly (the 15th and last day of the month) and Loula fights denials, with visibility and payment tracking in the Loula Portal.
Who it’s for: Doulas in California who want to accept insurance for prenatal/postpartum care and want to reduce administrative burden.
hallmarks of traction: 300+ doulas in network, active testimonials, early 2025 launch, ongoing onboarding and credentialing with multiple health plans
CEO @ Loula I'm a Brooklyn-based health tech nerd and former software engineer, obsessed with empowering independent perinatal healthcare providers (think doulas, midwives, and lactation consultants) and making their services more accessible to those who need it most. Prior to starting Loula, I studied CS at Stanford and was a software engineer at Lyft and Stripe. When I'm not working on Loula, I'm throwing pottery, riding my bike, watching tv, or decorating my apartment :)
