We make robots for biologists.
Today, biologists spend too much time pipetting by hand. We think biologists should have robots to do pipetting for them. People doing science should be free of tedious benchwork and repetitive stress injuries. They should be able to spend their time designing experiments and analyzing data. That's why we started Opentrons. We make robots for biologists. Our mission is to provide the scientific community with a common platform to easily share protocols and reproduce each other's results. Our robots automate experiments that would otherwise be done by hand, allowing our community to spend more time pursuing answers to some of the 21st centuryβs most important questions.
Opentrons provides automated lab hardware and software designed to streamline biological workflows. Their ecosystem supports customizable, AI-enabled automation that scales from no-code to advanced developer usage.
Opentrons offers Flex robot workstations, compatible modules, pipettes, labware, and integrated devices, all operable through a no-code/low-code software stack (Opentrons App, OpentronsAI, Protocol Designer, Protocol Library) with a Python API for advanced customization. Users build and configure workflows, simulate and visualize protocols, and automate repetitive liquid-handling tasks across applications like NGS, proteomics, nucleic acid extraction, and PCR, while leveraging AI-assisted design and autonomous experimentation capabilities.
Who itβs for: Biology labs and research facilities seeking scalable, automated liquid-handling and workflow automation; teams that want no-code/low-code automation with options for deeper customization via Python API; institutions exploring AI-enabled experimentation and high-throughput protocols.
Hiring/traction mentions implied by partnerships and academic collaborations (e.g., DAMP Lab), with active deployments in diverse labs and ongoing webinars/events.
