Moving Things Around in Space, Imaging Space Objects When We're Not
Turion Space is building spacecraft to move things around in space and image space objects when they’re not, and focused on developing the dual-use technology required to ensure a sustainable future in space. They aim to build a strong foundation selling space domain awareness imagery data while advancing their technology towards an affordable solution for orbital debris removal and eventually asteroid mining. The founding team originates from SpaceX, and after going through the Y-combinator accelerator in summer 2021 went on to raise a $6.2M seed round and is launching their first DROID satellite in early 2023.
Turion Space provides integrated hardware and software infrastructure for space operations, offering a configurable satellite platform and propulsion solutions to enable autonomous space operations and mission execution. The company positions itself as foundational infrastructure for expansion into the solar system, coordinating fleets and enabling mission control through a unified software layer.
Turion combines StarfireOS software with configurable satellites and propulsion systems to enable fleet command, simulations, deployment, and archival review. The software layer (StarfireOS) serves as the control surface for managing satellite fleets: docking tasks, running mission simulations, deploying assets via Nexus, and reviewing historical data in an Archive. Hardware offerings include a configurable satellite platform and state-of-the-art gridded ion propulsion systems that offer maneuverability beyond traditional high-efficiency propulsion. The integrated hardware-software stack is marketed as a single infrastructure for space operations and expansion.
Who it’s for: Organizations involved in space operations and defense, including space agencies, defense contractors, satellite operators, and companies pursuing rapid capability delivery in orbital infrastructure.
