A Roomba for weeds on a farm.
We are building an autonomous robot to precisely eliminate weeds and leave crops untouched. Despite $100 billion being spent annually on weed control, weeds still cost the US economy $46B/year. Weeds steal sunlight and nutrients from crops, forcing farmers to choose between higher costs and lower yields. Moreover, many farms still rely on hand labor to control weed growth. The process is slow, expensive, and increasingly difficult due to constant labor shortages (1 out of every 5 US farm positions go unfilled each year). Our robot nicknamed the Field Hand is able to automate one of the worst jobs on a farm and will help healthily feed the world.
Red Barn Robotics offers autonomous intra-row weeding services using a self-navigating weeding robot to reduce labor costs and increase yields for farms. The system is described as precise, autonomous, configurable, and sustainable, delivering a field-wide weeding service throughout the growing season.
An autonomous weeding robot designed to operate within crop rows to remove intra-row weeds without human intervention. The robot navigates independently between fields, uses a modular design with tool options tailored to farm constraints, and is intended to minimize soil compaction and preserve soil health. The company provides a multi-step service: scheduling a consultation, creating a custom weeding plan based on crop type and bed configuration, deploying robots on the farm to execute the plan, and maintaining weed-free conditions through regular season service.
Who itβs for: Farmers and agricultural operations seeking to reduce manual weeding labor and costs while maintaining soil health and yields.
Hiring/traction mentions not explicit; some indication of ongoing service offerings and customer-focused processes (consultation, custom plan, field deployment)
