SafeCoat DDS (Direct Deposition Separator) is a spray-on battery separator platform that coats porous polymer separator material directly onto electrodes during manufacturing. It integrates into existing roll-to-roll lines, encapsulates thin electrode edges, and is compatible with various cell chemistries and environments. The approach is designed to improve safety (reducing fire risk), boost yield and energy density, and enable scalable, on-site production without building new separator factories. Pilot lines are scalable to 40 GWh/year with minimal additional investment, and the platform supports both evaluation on 5Ah samples and pilot-scale B-samples before larger-scale deployment.
